STAFFIES.
IT'S NOT HOW
YOU THINK
Think you know about Staffies?
There's a lot of rubbish talked about Staffies, mostly by a sensationalist media. Let us put you straight.
-
Super loyal
While most dogs are loyal, Staffies are particularly known for it. They look upon their family as their pack, and, if loved and treated well, will always be there for you and put you first.
-
Great with kids
Staffies LOVE kids. The Victorians used them as nanny dogs for their toddlers. The Pets4Homes website observes that Staffies make a "incredibly suitable pet to have around children," due to their "calm, tolerant natures and protectiveness of their 'pack'."
-
Full of beans (A.K.A. bonkers)
Staffies are energy personnified, and basically bonkers. While they are given to sensitivity and calm when required, they love to unleash their energy in games. They love nothing more than a good wrestle or a tug-of-war!
-
Love affection
For all their energy, Staffies love affection. Raised properly, if you've had a bad day at work, or just want to relax, you'll find no more willing a companion than your Staffie. A bad day doesn't stay bad for long.
-
Short hair
Staffis are short-haired, which means no hairy sofas or car seats - keep the vaccuum cleaner in the cupboard!
-
Demonised by media
Staffies are NOT part of the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991). Consequently, many people with pit bulls started terming their dogs Staffies, and so many incidents have been wrongly attributed to Staffies. This unfair reputation has stuck in the media, whose job it is to sell bad news, anyway.
Truth about Staffies?
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are soft, highly sensitive dogs whose bad reputation is the result of misguided, unloving owners and a the sensationalist press (whose job is to sell bad news).
As a result, dog shelters are full of them and they need your love. They will reward you for life. Did you know the Victorians used to use them as nanny dogs for their children!?

Say 'NO' to breeders!
If you're thinking of taking on a dog, or indeed any animal, PLEASE don't go to a breeder. They exacerbate the problem of shelters being full of unwanted animals and reduce living beings to the status of commidities to buy and sell.
Be awesome; choose love and rescue a Staffie. You can find your nearest shelter here. You won't regret it.

Fact vs. Fiction
There's a lot of nonsense spoken about Staffies. Likely to bite you? They didn't even make it into the top 35 most bite-happy breeds according to one study. Dangerous around kids? Actually they're one of the few breeds Battersea Dogs Home suggests for children, and the Victorians used them as nanny dogs!
Let us help you sort the fact from the fiction...
